Re: any mommy to be nurses?

I'm a respiratory therapist and it's getting tough to work the long shifts. In the begininng everyone knew right away since I went through IVF so I never had to make any excuses. I would definately avoid boosting though. I don't avoid isolation rooms since a lot of my patients are in them. I just make sure to follow the appropriate precautions. My suggestion if you are prone to varicose veins is to start wearing support hose now. My legs are already horrible from being on my feet all dayChat Icon

I just wear the knee highs. They are hot enough as it is. Once I tried on the thigh high ones and they are beyond uncomfortable. I also make sure to sit down when I do not have to be up on my feet.

I was thinking you could tell your co-workers you are having some back issues and that's why you can't lift. I know a lot of nurses who refuse to do too much because of that. I might have a hernia so I am really going to have to cut back a lot now and it's going to be tough. Hauling the vents around the hospital requires quite a bit of pulling and I'm on alone in the evening so I don't have much of a choiceChat Icon

Re: any mommy to be nurses?

I recently got the knee highs. They are lightweight and do not feel heay at all. I told a couple of close co workers early on because sometimes our patients need to be lifted on stretchers and didn't want them to think I was slacking off by not lifting. Also, I was exhausted all the time and was very sick and using the bathroom a lot to throw up, so I felt like I had some explaining to do...lol
