I am very concerned about my little Shih Tzu

She is almost 7 months old. In the past week she has vomitted twice. The vomit is a clear liquid with yellowish foam. She went on to act okay after the first vomit. Yesterday, she was out in my yard in and out all day. Last night all of a sudden she started wheezing and snorting, her stomach was contracting and it looked as though she was trying to catch her breath and could not. Almost like she was having an asthma attack! I did not know what to do, so I just kept petting her and trying to calm her down. The wheezing finally subsided after a minute or two. She was not running around when this happened, she was lying in my arms. I was holding her and this is when she started this wheezing thing, so I put her down ont he couch. Is this what they call a reverse sneeze? I read up on it on the internet, but to me it seemed more like she was really trying to gasp for air! I am quite worried. Should I bring her to the vet after work today?

Re: I am very concerned about my little Shih Tzu

I definately experienced the same inward sneeze and $75 later that was what I was told it was.. I was scared to death but I got my answers.. The vomit I experience when my dog doesn't eat well the day before.. Its bile from an empty stomache.. try to notice if this is happening when she doesn't eat.. If she is eating well and it still happens then I don't know what it would be.. You might want to take her to the vet.. But this is my experience..Good luck I hope it helps you Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Are your dogs okay now? Does this still happen?

Re: I am very concerned about my little Shih Tzu

My dog has the inward sneeze alot this time of year.. And the vomiting only happens when she doesn't eat well. So I usually give her something before bed time. Do you notice she is vomiting because she is not eating?? The fact that there is no food in the vomit tells me it might be the same thing..

Re: I am very concerned about my little Shih Tzu

My shih tzu did this a couple times. I took him to the vet and he told me it was an irritable bowel thing. He would just give him something to settle his stomach.

Take her if it keeps happening and she is not eating.

My vet is great, I took him in so many times when he was a puppy with silly things. Let me know if you need a rec.

sounds like reverse sneezing and yes it is really scary to watch....they really look distressed...my dog was doing it as some kind of reaction to a medication she was taking it. stopped when we stopped the med (after going to the vet)...when I looked it up the info i read seemed to say that this is quite common for the breed...still scary nonetheless...I hope your doggie feels betterChat Icon
