outward - so it would be counter-clockwise on my left cheek and clockwise on my right cheek, if that makes sense.
i usually start just to the outside of the apples of my cheeks and work diagonally back up the cheekbone towards the hairline. then i go back and add some to the apples of my cheeks if i think i need it - but i usually don't.
if i start on the actual apples of my cheeks, i end up with blush on the sides of my nose
