Re: Those of you who have gotten an epidural before
I tried to be "tough" and wait labor out for a bit. When it was my last chance at 7 cm I took the epidural and it was so wonderful! I slept for a few hours and wondered why anyone would wait through pain! I did get itchy as it initally set in, but I hear that is to be expected.

Re: Those of you who have gotten an epidural before
I got a bolus dose at delivery because I tore so badly so my only issue was that it took forever (5hrs) for my legs to "wake" up. Other than that the epidural was great. Even with that said I would like to do without next time around.

Re: Those of you who have gotten an epidural before
The epidural was a horrible, horrible experience for me. I don't want to scare anyone...but it put me into so much pain that I actually had to get a C-section because of it.

Re: Those of you who have gotten an epidural before
I didn't have time for one and honestly, it wasn't that bad without it (maybe b/c it went so fast) but I have a friend who had one and got the terrible headache, she had to be flat on her back for five days, etc. this prevented here from being able to breast feed which she really wanted too. The whole epidural thing scares me so come Sept when DS is due I hope I can make it through without one.
My sister did it with her two so I'm praying I can do it with DS.

Re: Those of you who have gotten an epidural before
OK, this thread concerns me.... mainly becuase one should NEVER get a headache following a proper epidural.
After a spinal it's common.... becuase headaches are caused by inserting a needle through the dura (which then causes a small leak of cerebrospinal fluid). an epidural should NOT nick the dura.
So many thread respondents reporting bad headaches after receiving an epi means there are a lot of mis-administered epidurals resulting in a lot of accidentally nicked dura.
Prior to this thread, I only wanted to avoid an epidural becuase I wanted to be able to stand / walk and have gravity help along my labor (hopefully avoiding pictocin). Now I have an added reason to avoid them
