If your DH/SO told you to "slow down" your shopping.....

have you listened to them??

my DH asked me tonight to try not to "shop as much" i guess i will be start hiding my purchases in the trunk again

i guess this would be a bad time to tell him that i might go to tangers this weekend

I was told that last year

instead of shopping less

I just started looking for better deals

it's not like he does the math

I just show him how much I SAVE now on everything

and he gets all excited!

I think I actually shop more and buy more- but I am spending less!

I was never told this nor feel he will ever need to.

I shop when I can, get good deals/bargains and even come home with something for DH.

I shop within my means.

if he said that, I would respect his wishes, b/c he would only say it from a financial perspective. If money is going out, it's not where he thinks it belongs. whether he sees what I buy or not physically, he sees the bills, and sees the bank accounts.

and since he's an accountant, if he DIDN"T figure out what I was up to, I'd frankly be very worried

I didn't listen

He actually saw how many shoes I have and told me to slow down.

I just don't tell him half of what I buy.

he would never.. he likes to shop just as much as I do and the stuff he wears is prob more expensive then my stuff..

I actually don't shop alot at all.. My boss gets me a ton of free stuff from the showrooms..

I used to be a shopaholic. Now, my mom and DH beg me to go shopping. Since I am a SAHM i feel like I only need sweatsuits! It drives my mother mad! Which is why I am heading out shopping today - on her credit card! Good times!

Yes. I still get new stuff every now and then, but I have my eye on saving a lot of money.

I can't imagine my husband telling me to slow down when it comes to my shopping.

I'm the one that pays the bills, so it's usually the other way around, (Me saying holy sh!t, we need to slow down!).

However, if he did say it, it would be because I was getting carried away and spending too much on unnecessary things. I'd probably curb my spending for a bit, just to bring things back into perspective.

I would stop for a while and understand that there must be a reason that he is saying it.

I shop within my means anyway - he is usually the one handing me money and begging me to buy something, anything for myself!

ETA: and then I usually sneak it into the house fund anyway!!!

If he said that I would listen. But, since I make most of the money and I do all the bills, he could never tell me that

He has told me that- and I have listened.
As a previous poster stated - he is only saying it from a financial standpoint.
We have a house, and many expenses and I don't feel right spending like crazy on myself while he scrimps and saves to pay our bills.
We are a team and that wouldn't be fair.
As he points out- I have PLENTY of clothes etc- I really don't have a NEED for any of the stuff I shop for....so yes, I would and have slowed it down to help out at home.

Me too!!! My mom taught me to do this!!!

I handle the finances so I know what i can and can't buy. DH will tell me to slow down only b/c there is no room left in my closet!!!!!

When DH said this last, I quickly logged onto to our credit card account and pulled up his charges and mine and saw how much he spent on cr@p and how much I spent on clothes. He shut up quickly.

Now if I was guilty, I would slow down a bit.

mine would never say it in a million years...but he hears it from my mouth all the time.

I now have my get rid of it rule. If he buys a shirt, he has to get rid of one. He is too much of a pack rat to do this.
