If you "blew up"...

when did it happen??? If you don't mind sharing...

My sister whose never been pregnant keeps making comments about how much I eat. I think I still look fairly good at 6 months (was up 13 lbs at 20 weeks) but she keeps warning me about putting it all on in the end and how hard it's gonna be to lose it all. This was a good one..."Are you bigger than you're supposed to be? (all wide eyed). Do I need to slow down? Is there a point where a lot of people end up "blowing up"? Or is she just being rude and insensitive? I am not one to worry too much about my weight during pregnancy but the bigger I get the more I worry about it. Chat Icon

I think you are doing great! 13 lbs at 20 weeks? That is great! Even if you gained 20 lbs the second half, you are still well under 40 lbs. You will not have a problem losing it, especially with your first child.

Re: If you "blew up"...

Why do people, esp. family, feel it is necessary to comment on things they know nothing about? Gaining 13 pounds at 20 weeks is awesome! Esp. for someone who is not overweight like I am. Please tell your sister to stick to commentary that she has personal knowledge of... You will not blow up. You will probably 'pop' more down the road but you are not going to just gain 20 pounds out of the blue if you continue eating well like you are already. If your sister [or anyone else] makes another eating comment, tell her to mind her own f*&king business! Chat Icon

Re: If you "blew up"...

Honestly I always gain more in the beginning than I do at the end...I gain like 10lbs (Im serious) the minute I get pregnant..then I put on maybe 10-15 by about 20 weeks...well by the end of my pregnancy I only gained another 10lbs and a lot of that is baby...

Re: If you "blew up"...

13lbs at 20 weeks is FAB!
Its your body's job to gain the weight during pregnancy, and I don't understand why people, especially those who haven't had children yet care to comment on women's bodies during pregnancy.Even still, everyone carried different and you can't help where the weight will distribute itself.

Just keep doing what your doing and you'll be fine.

I'm curious to see what my family and friends will say this weekend....Its the first time they will see me since being preggo

Re: If you "blew up"...

It has been awhile since my last pregnancy, but with my son I went from 100 pounds to 160. And the comments for me went from OMG you are too skinny how will you carry a baby to OMG why are you gainning so much weight???? I lost all the weight in about 3 to 4 months time. If you listen to other people it will make you crazy. I can not stand opinionated people.
Do not worry. You gained a good amount...and you are supposed to get bigger!

ITA with this! your sister is definitely out of line for making comments like that - you should definitely not worry one bit about what she thinks. wait till she has kids! Chat Icon

Re: If you "blew up"...

I am having the same argument with my mother daily! In one breath she i9s telling me that I am all belly and in the next she is telling me I am too heavy for only 5 months and keeps reminding me that I have another 4 to go. She is convinced that a woman should gain no more than 15lbs her whole pregnancy. I guess I blew that out of the water because I am already up 25! Chat Icon To hell with what your sister thinks... You look fantastic! Chat Icon

Re: If you "blew up"...

Just stop worrying. You will lose it one way or another. I hate these obsessive weight threads because you are pregnant! You're giving life to the greatest miracle you will ever experience. Tell your sister to take a hike, you don't want to hear it. Just like she doesn't know about pregnancy weight gain (everyone is different, every pregnancy is different therefore its hard to predict how much you will gain) she won't know the joy at the end when every pain, every pound is completely worth it-you would do it all again and then some for your baby.

ITA!!

I gained 50lbs with each baby and lost it all by 4-5 months post pardum. IT didn't matter what i ate-my body was destined to gain that much no matter what.

My 1st pg i didn't eat that well and i was on bedrest so i expected it, but my 2nd pg, chasing an infant/toddler, i ate VERY well, hardly zero junk food, lots of salads, grilled chicken and i still gained the same.

i was the same exact weight at delivery for both my girls.

I can't stand when people comment about preggo's weightChat Icon like a preggo has nothing else better to be concerned about.

Re: If you "blew up"...

Your weight gain is great! I used to get comments all the time in front of MIL and behind my back about my weight gain- mind you I only gained 28 pounds my whole pregnancy, which was on point. I just learned to breath deeply and tell her the doctor thinks I'm doing great. Everyone's weight gain is different and sometimes I feel like no matter what you eat, the weight will come on when it will.

Re: If you "blew up"...

From the pics I have seen of you, you look great! That is NOT a lot of weight as all as AP said even if you can 20 more you will still be only around 33 lbs.

Re: If you "blew up"...

I didn't blow up with my 2nd, but with my first I got huge! I believe around 27 weeks is when I started really noticing it.

ETA: I think she is just being rude, and you should ignore her. Even though I gained way too much with my first (55poundsChat Icon ) I lost it within 3 months. So don't listen to her.Chat Icon

Re: If you "blew up"...

my mom was the same way. shes over weight and shes worried that this will be the begining of me being over weight (i started at 107lbs). she would sit there and watch me eat all wide eyed like i was a pig or something. its like, what am i supposed to do, starve my baby? i started getting all paranoid about it and was eating in moderation around people cuz i didnt want them to think i was a fatty but then my bf yelled at me and i kinda figured "f*** it" im pregnant, im allowed to be a fatty lol. i do hope i can get back to my pre-pregnancy weight because none of my clothes will fit me and il need a whole new wardrobe.

Re: If you "blew up"...

in my first trimester, people were telling me I should watch what I eat more, and gee I'm gaining a lot of weight...

I lost 5 lbs!

Ignore them. our bodies morph during pregnancy. eat well and there will be no excessive weight gain... It seems like you're right on target right now....
