That's what I don't understand. People in this country are dying and need help. I read a couple of news articles but they just say visas are being held up.

That's what I don't understand. People in this country are dying and need help. I read a couple of news articles but they just say visas are being held up.
because the Gov't is corrup and they're afraid of someone coming in to topple them  
the US has TONS AND TONS of aid waiting in Thailand and they are not being given permission to land. they even offered to drop the aid without landing.

Myanamar is an isolationist country--I believe it is a military run government. They see outside help as a threat, unless it is done their way, but the people trying to help, like th UN, feel that if they let the government do what they want, and don't oversee aid the way they normally do, they aid won't get where it's needed.

yup--exactly
they are run by a military junta - and therefore they are trying their best NOT to take outside aid, because they do not want any outsiders entering the country and later, trying to take over. its so sad.

Why won't they even allow air drops? No one would have to cross borders and maybe some lives can be saved.

This is true to an extent, but they also aren't allowing aid from any other countries- China, India, Thailand, etc., not to mention the UN, which in theory is a neutral organization.
