Re: Does anyone else NOT find out....

Mt doctor didn't start measuring me until I was 27 weeks. I am now 33 weeks. He hasn't told me either how much the baby should weigh. He just scheduled me for my second sonogram. I didn't have my first until I was 19 weeks. It amazes me how different all doctors are.

Re: Does anyone else NOT find out....

At this recent sono, they did not tell me the weight, but at my Level II they did. I honestly do not think your weight or DH's weight will determine the baby's weight - could be wrong, but I have heard of the smallest people having 8-9 lb babies. Next time you go, just ask for the weight. I would guess right now it would weight just over a lb, as that is what the tech told me the other day, even though she did not give me an exact number, it was just a quick check sono - I'm about 24 weeks.

Re: Does anyone else NOT find out....

at my ultrascreen, the sono tech said the baby was measuring 6 days ahead, and at my level II,. the tech said that the baby was measuring about 14oz.

my doctor has never said anything about my belly other than that it was "feeling big"

Re: Does anyone else NOT find out....

At my last sono at 26 weeks to check the babys position I asked the tech. That was the first time anyone mentioned what he was weighing in at.

Supposedly I may have to go for another sono next week to specifically check for weight. They are afraid he is getting large!

Re: Does anyone else NOT find out....

they will not be able to tell you what the baby weighs unless they do a growth sono, I think

they only do a growth sono if your are measuring large or small

Re: Does anyone else NOT find out....

My Dr never measured my belly and I never knew the estimated weight until I was 38+ weeks and that was simply because by feeling my stomach she thought I was having a big baby and I was sent to the hospital for a growth sono. Otherwise I never would have known, she said she doesnt believe what the regular sonos say as far as weight they have a tendency to be way off which is why she doesnt tell her patients that info.

Re: Does anyone else NOT find out....

I only found out through sonograms - the Level II and the Growth Sono at 30 weeks. Even then, they are still just estimates based on the baby's anatomy measurements.

If I never asked my OB how much my baby weighs she would never tell me.

My ob did a growth sono to make sure Chat Icon was growing ok, I have had a ton of complications with this pregnancy so they wanted to cover all the bases.

Me too. My doctors practice doesn't do growth sonograms unless they feel there may be something wrong with baby or if he/she is breech. I had no idea going into the last month how big the baby was and that was fine by me. I didn't want to get freaked out - especially knowing how off the measurements may be. He did measure my belly with the tape measurer at every visit and told me that I was measuring on track.

Re: Does anyone else NOT find out....

I have to be perfectly honest, even at 40 weeks, the weight estimates are just that. The day before delivering my doctor estimated that the baby was weighing 8 1/2 lbs. I delivered DS the following day at 7lbs, 4 oz.

Re: Does anyone else NOT find out....

I never had growth sonos with my DD and My DH is 6'0" and 210 pounds and I am 5'7" 123 pounds prepreg, and DD was 8.15!Chat Icon So I don't think yours and DH's sizes necessarily mean anything about how big the baby will be.

Re: Does anyone else NOT find out....

I had a growth sono at 31 weeks and they told me the baby was already 5 pounds and told me if I went to my due date I could hit double digits. Chat Icon
Well he was right, I had her 10 days early via scheduled c-section and she was 9lbs 3oz. I am 5ft 2in and 115 prepreggo. Never thought I would have a huge baby.

Re: Does anyone else NOT find out....

At my 20 week, she told me approx 13 oz.

When I was preggo w/Hayley, I had a lot of sonograms and they told me her approximate weight every time. They were pretty accurate because I had one at 34 weeks and was told she was almost 7 pounds and she was born at 35 weeks and was 6lb 13oz.

Re: Does anyone else NOT find out....

I was told at my growth sono at 36 weeks that Chat Icon was 6 lbs 1 oz.
They never said anything to me at all at my Level II - I don't know if they estimated a weight at that sono or not.
I started getting my belly measured at 24 weeks. I know that the inches should correspond to how many weeks you are, but I don't think they can tell the weight of the baby from that.

Re: Does anyone else NOT find out....

I haven' t gotten my belly measured yet or asked about how much the baby weighs...at my leve II they told me how long the baby was...and it was a rough estimate.
My DH is 6'4" and weighs around 270 and I'm only 5'0" ...so I'm seriously scared of how big I will get and wonder how big the baby will be
