Laptop for $300?
Any ideas on where I can get a refubished/new Laptop for about $300?
Just want one to work on files (word/excel), with internet access (wireless) and that I can bring back and forth from home to work.
TIA!

Re: Laptop for $300?
I got a laptop recently and its was $600. Its an HP and had all the programs etc.
I think for the extra money its worth getting a new one...and Im sure you could find something even a little cheaper.JMO
Check out Microcenter...they had tons and refurbs.
I got mine at Circuit city.

Re: Laptop for $300?
Dell has an Outlet Center where they have refurbished, scratched, etc. laptops (and desktops, monitors, printers, etc). It's hit-or-miss on the site, since the inventory changes quickly, but it's worth a look.

Re: Laptop for $300?
I might get this one because of the size, its smaller than a reg laptop. half the size. has everything you need. and see here, it has AMAZING reviews on amazon.
ASUS LAPTOP
ETA: Also comes in many colors
Also, Target has it, CLICK HERE
not sure of why the price difference between the 2. maybe memory/disk space.
my hubby has heard first hand from a few that have it, LOOOVE IT.

Most people don't realize that these computers don't run Windows. They run Linux. That means that many programs are not available to be run. And if you do find a program to install, you need to be computer saavy to do it.
If you are not familiar with Linux administration, and you possibly think that you may want to do more than what is currently installed, I'd recommend spending the extra 200 dollars to get a full sized regular Dell running Windows.

Thank you!!!!!

It does *support* it, but you have to buy a legal copy (Windows XP Home Edition is about $200), then install it. If you can't install it yourself, it costs more $$ to have someone do it. With only 512MB of RAM, Windows will not run very well, and with a 4GB drive, you can't put much on there after Windows takes up what it wants (bare minimum of 1.5GB, but usually closer to 2.5+)....

Re: Laptop for $300?
Just be careful who you buy one from..
Without going into to much detail we bought a refurbished laptop from online..I want to say Ubid but Im not sure (DH did it). Supposedly they had a spotless rep from all the reviews etc..
We've had nothing but issues with the computer since we bought it.

Re: Laptop for $300?
I don't think you'll get something reliable that's able to run XP and a recent version of microsoft office for that little....
maybe $600-800...
I would also advise you to NOT buy refurbished... I can tell you that after getting my old laptop fixed, it broke again within 3 months... the repairs are not terribly reliable.

Re: Laptop for $300?
You can probally find a laptop in the 400-450 range that will do everything you need to do...
I would look at weekly sales circualrs and visit deal websites like techbargains.com and fatwallet.com
I told an LIF to do this and she scored a laptop for 400 bucks...works great

my hubby's a computer world geek, and knows all this (although it goes in one ear and out the other when he explains it to me )
we have 2 other laptops, and I have my main pc at home. I just like this size because it's easy to travel with. and I CAN use my flash drive, and would only use it for word, excel, internet, etc.
im still not positive im getting it anyway
but thanks for the headsup and for posting that, I should have
