Retirement Party?
My Mom is officially retiring at the end of the month. Her job is throwing her a big party at a restaurant with 70 people. Someone mentioned to me that typically the person's "family" throws the new retiree a big party as well.
That would mean I should throw her a party. My dad is deceased and my brother's are well, useless.
Should I throw her a large retirement party on top of the party her work is throwing her? I live far from LI now, so it would also be at a restaurant / hall.
I just assumed her co-workers would be the ones to throw something for her... I guess I don't know anyone else who has retired - LOL.
Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!

Re: Retirement Party?
I would think that the party from work would be enough. I am assuming they are inviting your mom's immediate family.

Re: Retirement Party?
We had a retirement party for my dad and invited the family and some of his coworkers. As a family, we wanted to congratulate him for working 43 years.

They are, but most of us can't go because we are not on LI! My Aunt & Uncle are going, and my niece is going.

Re: Retirement Party?
you're in the same boat as my family! my father just retired. he was a union carpenter, but worked for the same company within in the union for many years. the owner of that company is throwing him a party at a bar/restaurant in Manhattan. Immediate family has been invited and all of his co-workers.
my mom and sibligns and I are also throwing him a party. this will be a party with his family and good friends and a few people from work (not all) that he was close with. we are throwing the party at my parent's house to keep costs down, but will get some of the food catered.

Re: Retirement Party?
My Dad is retiring next summer and I am planning on throwing him a surprise party for it. He's worked so hard for so many years for the LIRR and has been counting down the days till he retires. It's an exciting time for him. I will be inviting his co-workers. I don't feel like i NEED to throw him a party, but I want to because he's just always done so much for me.
I don't know how far you are from LI but if it's not feasible for you to throw your Mom a party, then I wouldn't stress about it. Maybe you and your family can take her to a nice dinner instead?
