Puppy

Where can I get one from? I think DH may have possibly agreed to get a Golden Retreiver or a Lab. We have a Springer Spaniel right now that the kids adore but he is 15 years old...

well, you can check out any local shelters - kent animal shelter (out east) is a great place where i adopted a cat from quite a few years back. they were wonderful to deal with and have tons of dogs.

there are tons of shelters all over if you don't want to drive far - you can just yahoo dog shelters on long island. i know of "last hope" -- my SIL adopted a cat from there and they also have dogs and were great - had a really nice facility. you can also check out petfinder.com - that's a cool site (has pics and you can browse and search by "type" of dog). you may be able to get a golden or a lab but more likely you might get a mix - but there are tons of lab mixes that make great pets. then again, you could get lucky and get a pure breed - my aunt adopted a pure bred schnauzer from a shelter once.

if you want to go the breeder route you can check out akc.org - the american kennel club and search for a reputable breeder in your area!

I had my English Springer for 14 years. He passed a little over two years ago. There is an English Springer Spaniel Rescue club on LI if you are interested in another. THere is probably a Golden Rescue as well. Good luck.

Karen - I got Cosmo from a breeder in Ridge. Love her.......a few people here have gotten pups from her as well.
