Is it bad that for a part of my family...
I don't want to deal with 'obligations'?  I just don't want to go to family functions.

I know exactly how you feel!! Is it bad? I don't know...I feel the guilt, which I thought was the Jewish brand specifically, but it depends on what the event is...but...I feel your pain nonetheless...
