quixtar is what used to be called amway. someone roped my DH into doing it before we were married
Needless to say we were 'chosen' by the top dog of the group and he came to DHs friend's house (the one who signed him up) and was ready for us to hand over all of our friends/family's names AND phone #s so HE could call them on our behalf and convince them to sign up under us to buy all of their shampoo, etc....
Needless to say we put our foot (feet?) down and said no thank you and DH dropped it that day........

my friend tried to get me to do it, and kept nagging me and nagging me...

the ppl who run it and are sales ppl (like my friend) are those type of ppl who CAN convince you to join their network.

unless you have this type of personality, it WILL NOT work for you.

i didnt talk to my friend for a few months after the persistant nagging, he tried to hit up all my friends to join as well and only got 1 to do it.

I havent asked him how it went, or if he is still doing it, but that was a year ago.

but dont do it its not worth it.

oh god, the pyramid scam!

DH got rope-a-doped into doing that after college. He was trying to make money and having a difficult time trying to find a job in his degree area (marketing and international business). Most of the jobs he got were cheesy salesman positions - hence, why he went back to school lol he is now attending Dowling for his Master's in Education to teach Science or Math since he went back to fill the requirements needed to obtain an undergrad in Biology, General Science, Earth Science and Mathematics

The second I met him I was like "yeah, that's a SCAM and you are not doing it anymore" haha. I remember telling his little group leader where to go and how to get there and how I felt he was ripping off my DH who was just trying to make some money and a decent living. Still makes me angry. So, all in all: RUN!

One of my co-workers is into it, they way he talks about it, it's almost like he is in a cult!

The real $$ that is made in those things are by the people at the top selling the "how to improve your business" literature and DVDs, it's not by the little guys selling energy drinks and vitamins.

I actually felt this way when I went to a couple of the meetings w/ my DH before he left it... it was disgusting the way these people all admired their top upline. DH and i would look at eachother and and try not to during the meetings.

I did it for a few years. DH & I (mostly me) had a decent sized group and we made money. DH quit 5 years ago, I quit 3 and a half years ago. If you want to know why I quit, FM me. Long story short, my up line Emerald was dishonest about a lot of stuff, mostly money.

I am still friend with the couple who "sponsored" us and the couple who sponsored them...all of whom quit basically for the same reason. Looking back, I am glad I left. I made a few close friends out of it and it taught me A LOT about who to trust / not trust in life.

Another thing that got to me was that so many people are in it who are Christian and I felt that is why I trusted them so much. I am Christian, yet looking back, I felt that they manipulated the tenants of Christianity to suit their own needs and desires. You know some really sweet kind hearted people get into it (like your friend) and before they know it they are swimming in the "deep end of the pool" when they do not know how to swim, KWIM?

I was gullible and trusting. That is why my up line took advantage of me and lied to me about money that He and his wife were making and cheated me out of money. Also, when my DH quit and I was still building it, my up line Emerald to tried to tell me that if my DH was not with me he was against me. Stuff like that. I knew that was not the case and I think he wanted us to divorce b/c my DH saw what a lying POS he was.

When I quit so did my group. My up line was pizzed about that.

This is just my experience and I am sure that not every quixtar distributor is like this. I was not a liar or a cheat. I treated the people my group with respect, that is why I had a group. I ran it like a business, not a cult. I made money. I chose to walk away b/c I felt cheated, lied to, mislead by those that I trusted. HTH
