Then why or why did Oreo pull his bed out of his crate and drag it onto his wee wee pad???

I wish I could answer this question, but alas Arnold always pooed in his crate therefore we stopped using it.
One time I came home for lunch and it was so bad that I had to call into work and take the rest of the day off. It took me 2 hours to clean him and the crate up.

He is actually very good when he is IN the crate (although that stinks...no pun intended...about what happened w/ your dog...2 hrs! Sheesh!). I had to take the bed out of his crate today because he keeps pulling it out and putting it on his wee wee pad. So, he'll get it back only at bedtime.

Why dont you close the crate door when he is not in it?

Tried that and ooooh the whining! That's his home and he did not like being locked out of it at all!

Oh well that's good!
I think he'll be ok without his bed for a time being. Maybe you could slowly reintroduce it to him in the crate as time goes by.
