Need some help
My DH and I are looking to buy a shar-pei puppy this summer. Growing up we never went to breeders for dogs, we had always adopted our dogs. So basically my question is, how do I find a reputable breeder?
Is it ok to have puppies shipped? I keep finding online all these breeders but their quite far, is my best option to go pick up the puppy?
I would greatly appreciate ANY advice, because we defiantly want to be as educated as possible.
Sorry for so many questions, and TIA!

Re: Need some help
the best advise i can give you is to not get a sharpei.. they have a ton! of medical problem alot of skin issues they need constant cleaning... definetly do more research into the breed to see if your up for it. most pet insurances wont even cover shar pei's

Re: Need some help
Maybe try looking for a Shar-Pei mix...there are a few on Petfinder right now. It would help to reduce the amount of medical issues, but you will still get the Shar-pei look.
If you have your heart set on a purebred Shar-pei, check with the CSPA and also the AKC recommended breeders
There don't seem to be any breeders in NY, but there are some in Jersey and CT. A responsible breeder will not fly their puppies to you...they will want to meet with you and see how you interact with the puppies. Try to pick a breeder that is within driving distance so you can meet with them and see the living conditions of the dogs and puppies.
Good luck!!
