Car Insurance Question.

I recently switched from Countrywide to Geico. I sent a form letter to Countrywide stating that I was switching. My payment to Countrywide was also due so obviously I did not pay.

I got a letter asking for a photocopy of my insurance IDs and the "enclosed form" but no form came with it. So I sent in the photocopies.

I got ANOTHER letter in ALL CAPITALS ( you know what THAT means ) stating that I have to send in the photocopies AND the enlosed form ( still no form ).

Here is the thing, WHY DO THEY CARE? If I am NOT paying, cancel my insurance - period. Why do they have to know who I switched to? It is so annoying!

Any ideas why?

I'd call them up and ask about this mysterious form. I have no idea, but it might have something to do with the fact that by law, you have to carry car insurance.

As to the "why do they care?", I don't know. As long as you're insured, you should be fine.

ok thanks!

I didn't know it was their responsibility to report that I didn't have insurance. . . it makes sense bc I am sure if I wasn't insured I wouldnt report myself LOL

Re: Car Insurance Question.

I work ins.

Most companies need proof of cancellation...esp if its car insurance so there is no probs with DMV and the policy could be pro rate, meaning they may even owe you money.

I had the same issue when I went from All State to Geico. They could not drop me until I sent them an official letter. So frustratingChat Icon
