What would you do? (Dr. related--kind of long)
I went for my first Dr. appointment yesterday. It was my first meeting with him. I decided to change doctors because my last dr. had a very busy practice, only gave me about 5 minutes per visit and was in the city--though I did like the idea of delivering at Beth Israel.
So my new Dr. was really nice, gave me a lot of attention, sat with me before and after seeing him, took blood, urine and gave me a TB test (said I hadn't had one in while...) He gave me a due date and told me to schedule an appointment for 4 weeks. Then he told me to make an appointment for a sonogram. It's in a different place. I didn't even realize till my Mom pointed it out that I would have to get a sonogram in this separate place throughout my pregnancy.
What would you do? Would this be a dr. deal breaker for you? I am not sure what to do!

I think it's very normal to get sono's some place other than your doctor's office. I know as I get further along I'll go to Lenox Hill for the majority of mine.

Re: What would you do? (Dr. related--kind of long)
My doctor does sonos in his office but the Ultrascreen and Level II sonos are done at another doctor's office. If you like the doctor, I wouldn't ditch him. Good doctors that you are comfortable with are hard to come by. Odds are you won't be having that many sonos anyway... GL!

Re: What would you do? (Dr. related--kind of long)
Are you sure that all sonos are done out of the office and not just the ultrascreen and level II? A lot of offices don't do those in-house. I would personally want a Dr's office that did routine sonos in-house, but that's just my personal opinion. At my last visit at 13 weeks, my Dr. wasn't able to hear the heartbeat via the doppler, so she did a quick external sono just to put my mind at ease. I wouldn't have been happy if she couldn't have done that because they didn't have the ability to do sonos. However, I know a lot of people do go to offices that don't do sonos in-house and are perfectly fine with it.

Re: What would you do? (Dr. related--kind of long)
my dr, only does regular sono's at her office...for my level II and anything other kinds of tests I will have to go to another office. Its not a deal breaker b/c I love my dr, I feel comfortable with her and knowing she will deliver my child

Re: What would you do? (Dr. related--kind of long)
My ultrasound and level II are done offsite from my doctor. I don’t mind in the least. My 12week pics were so clear compared to the sono done in the doctors office at 14weeks.
So for me, it’s not a deal breaker. It’s the same for me as saying no to a general practitioner because they don’t take urine samples at their office and make me go somewhere else (I had one like this once). Lab work is lab work, no biggie. I like my doctor.
Just my $.02

Re: What would you do? (Dr. related--kind of long)
For me, if I absolutely adored the doctor it wouldn't bother me. But if he was just a good doctor and you think you could find another you like just as well, I would. It is such a hassle to have to go to a seperate place for every ultrasound.

a lot of offices are like this. Keep in mind, you'll probably only have 2 sonograms, 12 week and 20 week.

Re: What would you do? (Dr. related--kind of long)
I had all of my sonograms done in the office. It probably wouldn't have bothered me if I had a normal pregnancy to go somewhere else...but I've had complications which have led me to have sonograms every 2 weeks. I appreciated my Dr. having the results right away and being able to discuss the sonogram right after having it.

Re: What would you do? (Dr. related--kind of long)
If you are happy with the new OB, STICK with him! Trust me, its worth it for the few times you might have to travel outside of their office to get a sono. Besides, you typically wont have many sono's anyways. I also went through a whole switching OB thing and found a good on the 3rd try at 28 weeks preg.. and if she didnt do sonos, i wouldnt even care.. the dr. is more important than the sono location/tech etc!
Goodluck!!!

I wouldn't judge it on sono's, I go to another place or my sono's and I love my Dr's, I wouldn't change just because of that.

Mu doctor only does the original internal sono at her office. All of my other sono's have to be done at the hospital.
