Communion gift??
DH's little 8 year old cousin is making his first Holy Communion the 2nd weekend in May and we can't make the trip to NY for the party so I want to send him something aside from (in addition to) the typical check. What would be an appropriate gift? I'm sure all the women in DH's family are going to equipt him with every gold cross there is out there- Can I give him a gift card or something to Toys R US? Would that be wierd??

I don't think so.
My mom is not religious... wasn't raised to believe in anything specific, so when she gives a communion gift she usually gives something that the child will actually play with and enjoy. TRU gift card is a good idea... he'll probalby really like it!
