Which would you like?
I took a really beautiful picture of my SIL and niece. It is outside, the sun is highlighting their hair, they are both looking to the upper left corner and smiling, their hair blowing in the breeze. I'm not going to post due to privacy.
Which would you like as a gift? Either will be in a black frame wtih a white matte.
Color
or
Black and White?

It's hard to tell without seeing the actual picture.
BUT, if there isn't too much in the background of the picture that distracts from them I would probably leave it in color.
If the background is busy, I would do black & white.
Hope that made sense

If the background looks like that I would leave it in color. It's not busy and won't take attention away from the subject. The 2 beautiful girls in the picture

I think the black and white makes it seem more special. Chances are they already have color photos around the house, so the B&W will really stand out.

well it really depends on what the picture looks like to be honest with you. i went to school for photography for awhile and pictures that the color is dull or somewhat boring, just doesnt strike you, should be black and white

I depends on the colors. What colors are the wearing? What color hair do they have? What does the background look like?
In the sample you posted, it looks better in color, becase there isn't a lot of contrast, so in B & W, the whole thing pretty much looks gray.

I thought about that, but I don't like sepia in a black frame with a white matte.
I'm thinking of getting both and letting her choose which one she wants. I love the color AND the b&w.

I would depend on the photo & what you're trying to focus on.
With the 2 photos you posted, the vibrancy of the color would make me want it in color.
If it was a moment you were trying to capture & the focus was more on the moment, I'd want it in B&W (for example, my avatar).
Also the first photo you posted was grayscale, not B&W so that would also make a difference to me since I don't think anything in grayscale.

If its an outdoor shot and you are seeing lots of colors and tones, I would say color
Even though I am a BW freak when it comes to pics
however--if it's a special close up, BW may do the job

I can respect that.
Based on what you've said, I'm picturing black and white. I struggle with this too with my redheaded nieces and nephews, because I don't want to lose that.
But it invokes a sentimental, classy feeling for me. And the picture sounds lovely.

If it was for my SIL, it would be B&W- she loves them and has a hallway full in her home.
If it was for me, color- especially if it has the lighting you described.
It really depends on the recipent I think.

I say color. Only b/c you mention that the sun is hi-lighting their hair. It sounds like color will make the picture more "alive".
