BLONDE: To highlight or dye?
I currently have blonde highlights and have been quite happy up until now. I have a new girl cutting my hair and she suggested that instead of highlighting, I should do a single process blonde dye and only highlight a few times a year, claiming this would be healthier for my hair.
Now I'm all .
I don't really want one solid color blonde and the idea of dying and then highlighting seems extra harsh.
Her argument is that most of the time I'll just be doing a single process on my roots, so it's healthier.
Thoughts?

Re: BLONDE: To highlight or dye?
Not sure which is healthier but I asked my hair stylist about this....I have brown hair (base color) that is highlighted blonde...I asked about this a while back and he said that I would be in the salon every 3 weeks to have my roots done just for the base color and it would end up costing me more money. And think of how fast your hair grows in the warmer months.
I cannot imagine that amount of coloring would be healthier.
I ended up not doing it and just sticking with the highlights. I trust my hair stylist...he is the owner of the salon and has a lot of experience

It is also almost impossible to dye hair blonde unless your hair is light to begin with.

Re: BLONDE: To highlight or dye?
If your hair is dark, the only way to get it blonde is to bleach it - which is NOT good for your hair .......your highlights are bleached, to whatever extent, they are - Imagine taking your WHOLE head and bleaching it ........
I'd get a 2nd opinion from another colorist. -

I agree. Highlighting gives your hair more depth and dimension.

I don't like single processes. Because there is no debth (sp?) to the color then. How about just doing a base lifter then highlighting? Then, you don't have to highlight every time, you can do it every other time you go (that's what I do). But I also don't get highlights or the base lift too far from my natural color.

I think this is what she is suggesting. Or is a base lifter and a single process dye job different? I know the single process would only lift my color a little bit. But I still think doing that AND highlighting would be more damaging to my hair, even though I might require highlights less frequently.
