Anyone's cat suffer from crystals/stones and use prescription s/d
I have an 8.5 yr. old male cat. 5 years ago he had major surgery because his bladder stones were so bad and that was the only cure. After that he was on prescription food for awhile, but it caused him to gain alot of weight. He eventually went up to 29 lbs. So for the last few years he's been eating IAMS and is doing well. A few months ago he had an ear infection and the vet put him on weight loss food and that helped and he lost 3-4lbs. Well now the stones returned and the vet said we have to put on prescription food again (Hills s/d). and if that doesn't work he will have to have more surgery. Well we are starting on the food, but this is the same food that caused him to gain so much weight last time. Because he so overweight, he is on the verge of diabetes too. So his stones will clear up, but he may get diabetes. I don't get it. There should be something that can help both.

Espresso was in the hospital in December for the same thing. After minor surgery and five days, they sent him home with Prescription Diet S/D formula and they told us to give him a can and a half a day. That was entirely too much food for him to eat so we cut it back to a can a day (1/2 in the a.m. and 1/2 in the p.m.). He has done very well on it. He gained some weight when he was getting the can and a half, but has maintained since we cut him back. He is on wet food only - no dry food.

My mom's male cat always has blockages, not sure if it's caused by stones. But my Mom finally took him to a vet that specializes in cats and she said to stop feeding him any food that has fish in it. Fish is not good for male cats.
Hope your little guy feels better soon!
