going away
I am going away this week. someone was telling me that I can't sit in the sun or lie in the sun. Now I know I need to try to stay cool, and be careful. But I just thought that I could drink plenty of water and jump in the pool or ocean when I get hot. We are going to an Island so it is obviously going to be hot. My dr. knows and he didn't say anything about staying out of the sun. i have seen pregnant people on the beach all the time. What do you think?

Re: going away
Enjoy yourself! All I would suggest is to keep hydrated and bring a good sunscreen so you don't burn because the pregnancy changes our resistence to the sun.

Re: going away
Definitely stay hydrated and bring the sunblock! When i went to florida, i brought my 30 sunblock and i still got burned (blame it on the pregnancy hormones). So the next day i went out and got 50.

Re: going away
i think as long as you are hydrated and keep cool as much as possible you will be fine. it is important for preggo women to not get overheated, because when our body temps rise it can affect the baby, but if you pay attention i think you'll be fine. enjoy yourself!!

Re: going away
All advice above is good. Only thing to add is try to avoid walking a lot. With the heat you'll be retaining more water and walking will only increase your chances of your ankles swelling.
I used SPF 30 while in Aruba. Applied it religiously and somehow only managed to get horrible sunburn on the inside of my legs. I suggest you get SPF 50.
Have fun!!!

Exactly. I went to Key west last summer when I was 18+ weeks pregnant and it was 102. Trust me I was in the sun the whole time and it was fine! Enjoy!

Re: going away
I went to Mexico in Feb when I was 26 weeks. It was over 90. I just drank lots of water and went in the Caribean or pool often. Just don't get overheated! Have fun!!
