anyone else really bad
with directions?? i feel like im ALWAYS getting lost. whether its me driving, walking in manhattan or taking the subway. i have to give myself extra time and plan that i'll be lost. haha am i the only one?

On the subway, or walking in Manhattan, I'm fine (unless I'm all the way downtown, where there aren't any numbers). But driving, I have to leave myself twice as much time as it should take. I'm always getting lost, and having to double-back. Nice to know I'm not alone!

yes, I'm terrible with directions! I especially have no concept of north, south, east, west.... but I've gotten better since moving to California since I always feel like I can tell which way the ocean is!

I grew up in a neighborhood of Brooklyn where the streets were all numbered, the avenues were letters, it was a grid and everything went in order!
Now that I live on LI, I have trouble sometimes.
I have the basics down, but when it comes to the little streets, and what order they're in, I am totally lost!!!!!!!!!!!!

To me, manhattan and brooklyn make sense. There is a grid. Long Island confuses the heck out of me and I get lost all the time.

i'm really bad with north south east and west so if i walk out of the subway, i'll just start walking not knowing if the numbers are going up or down. i think the avnues is what screws me up haha. and it took me 2 days to realize that on 57th and 7th, there's both uptown and downtown in the same place. i kept walking down the downtown stairs and took the train on the left just to find out i'm going to queens haha. kills me

My GPS always leads me to a church. People tell me to relax that I am in a church and farm place but I beg to differ. No matter where I want to go, I always end up at a church!

I am probably the worst person with directions out of ANYONE.
I get lost on the numbered streets in the city too.
People will say- walk up 33rd toward 8th and I'm like- ok well is that left or right when I walk out the door of the building? Like I never got how I am just supposed to know which way 8th is when I am standing on a street and I can't see the signs.
I guess I was born without the instict to tell me that!

Where did you grow up? I grew up on 29th and L.
To the OP: I am awful with directions. I know what I know, but any new territory and I am bound to get lost. Don't ever trust me with a map.
