What does a contraction feel like?
I still have no clue. do they feel like period cramps? I know its a silly question, but it bothers me that I feel like I wont be able to tell when I am having early labor contractions.

Yes, like a menstrual cramp. But it starts from your lower back (almost in your butt area) and radiates to the front. They can also knock the air out of you.

You'll know when you have true labor contractions. For me it felt like really bad PMS cramps combined with a feeling of having to go to the bathroom really badly and some gas cramps. It's hard to explain but trust me you will know without a doubt when the time has come. I did not have early contractions, apparently I slept through them. I just woke up at 5:30 in the morning in full blown 3-4 minutes apart contractions.

What does a contraction feel like?
I don't really get period cramps, so to me they felt like a belly ache. Tightening like a braxton hicks, but longer and stronger....but tollerable. (I went on with my normal daily things, make lasagna, did laundry, etc.)
I had them from the morning until 6pm....then they got stronger and more frequest. (still able to eat dinner)
When labor progresses, TRUST ME,,,,you WILL know they are contractions for sure!
They started getting more frequent around 6pm, then uncomfortable around 8pm (concentrated on my breathing, not talking when they came).
9:30pm we headed to the hospital.
