Who Doesn't Want A Baby Shower?
Is it customary for friends/relatives to throw a shower for first time parents?
I'm asking 'cus I just got my BFP and am abit scared of the thought. Although it's not part of my culture, my DH's mom may just throw one anyway since she did it for DH's sister and SIL. She's big on these types of things.
Has anyone ever asked relatives/friends not to host a shower for them? I'm thinking about having a 1 month post birth party instead so everyone can come meet the baby instead of seeing me in my holy bloated glory.

I originally didn't want one bc like you, it's not typical in my culture to have one (can I assume you are Asian? I'm Chinese, and we have the one-month party).
But, in the end, my SIL and many friends convinced me to have one and I have to say, it was great because we got everything we needed for the baby and then some!
You have to decide if your side of the family would be comfortable with it.
I know my mom was uncomfortable at the shower, and some of the older people like my aunt, but the younger ones my age like cousins were fine with it.

In my religion, we don't typically have showers, and as much as I would love one, we aren't going to...it's not a rule, more of a tradition/custom

Thanks Jambalady. I am of Chinese descent and DH is a mix of Italian/British/German. Everyone is really looking forward to seeing what the baby will end up looking like since it's going to be mixed race. Go figure.
Did you end up having both the shower and one month celebration? Maybe I should divide it up to lessen the awkwardness. I would rather just have the post one month though just so everyone doesn't feel obligated to buy gifts for us.

Maybe your coworkers will throw you one. A friend of mine didn't register despite her coworkers egging her on... in the end, they threw her a surprise shower and gave her a bunch of clothes and giftcards. Sweet surprise!
