can you invite men to a baby shower...

I think I've heard of this - but I know its not done often.

I wanted it to be more of a celebration than a baby shower.

I'm not sure if this is done or not... is it stupid (be honest!)

Re: can you invite men to a baby shower...

I'm going to be having my sprinkle/shower in September and we're inviting some guys. My dh, dad, the godfather of my son and baby #2 plus a few other relatives. I think 6-7 guys total. They are coming an hour into the shower. I'm having it at a pub/restaurant type place so they can drink it up while us ladies do the girly stuff.

They're really just there for the food.Chat Icon

I don't think it's a dumb idea at all.

I guess its fine...but my Dh would hate it...

During my baby shower the men (DH, his little brother, my dad, my uncle, my cousins) all went to Dave and Busters and had a grand old timeChat Icon

My SIL is having a Jack/Jill in June or July. They are just doing a big outdoor party and inviting all spouses and male relatives. I think it's becoming more common now. I personally do not want to do it, but I think it's a fun idea.

I'm having two baby showers. My Mom threw one on LI. It was at the Milleridge. My dad, DH, brothers and uncle came and went to the pub that is on a different floor there. They came up to say hello at the beginning and then again at the end to carry the gifts Chat Icon .

Two of my girlfriends are throwing me a shower (TODAY!!! Chat Icon ) in Chicago, where I live. One of them suggested a jack & jill but both of their DHs and mine said they'd rather get together somewhere else and do their own thing. Then the other girl said she'd prefer to not have guys because she wanted it to be more girly and not have the guys make fun of us!

Re: can you invite men to a baby shower...

I had somewhat of a Jack & Jill shower for my bridal shower. The men showed up about 1-2 hours into it. By that time I had already opened the gifts and it was time to party!!! (We had a backyard Luau)

For the baby shower, I had a few men attend. My DH, my brother, a few of his brothers, my grandfather, his father. Just the immediate family.
It worked out great to have my DH there... I made him help me open all of the gifts!!! I got so tired after having to keep beding and lifting, opening only 5 gifts. I am so glad he was there to help with the rest!

For mine, the women were invited at 4:00 and the men at 6:00 for dinner. It was fun.

Re: can you invite men to a baby shower...

I think as long as all of those girly shower games are kept to a minimum, the guys may like it....

I will say though, that DH and I picked up some pizza while a shower was going on in the restaurant area, and DH rolled his eyes at the shower game and commented that 'you women sure must be bored to enjoy that'....

so that's my guy's perspective of shower bingo Chat Icon So, likely it's best to go light on, or eliminate, the shower games.....

I am going to a co-ed one this month. I think it should be fun. This shower is from 7-11pm so am sure for the exception on the preggers (me) will have lots of fun, including alcohol!

I did an it was awesome. I couldn't imagine celebrating such a wonderful thing as a baby and not having my closest male friends there. Of course we also had a mini keg (thanks to my brother) so the males were all amused and happy Chat Icon

I am definitely inviting at least one guy to any shower I might have....I have mentioned a co-ed to shower to DH who promptly poo-pooed the idea.Chat Icon

Re: can you invite men to a baby shower...

I had "my" shower at home with mom and all the women.

At about 37 weeks, the employees and some family threw a shower at the pizzeria and Brian did all the cooking for it.

I felt like he needed to be involved, so I made it a DADDY SHOWER. He opened all the gifts, and cut the cake. He enjoyed himself.....

Re: can you invite men to a baby shower...

I didn't have a traditional shower. I had an evening cocktail party - no games, minimal present opening. Just a party like any other with good food and drinks, to celebrate the baby coming.

I wanted it co-ed, after all, it was Al's baby too! The guys had fun, since it wasn't a "shower", it was a party!

With #2, my mom's throwing a "sprinkle" that will be more traditional.
