When is it safe...

...to order furniture? Our closing date is just about set for the 25th of Jan, but I'm still a little nervous about ordering anything in case any problems arise at the last minute (in the UK you don't actually sign any contracts until a few days before you close, so technically it could still fall through). But if we don't do somethign soon we'll have nothing to sit on in our new place for a few months! Chat Icon

If you are in an apartment...
I would stay until the end of the month and furnish immediately after the closing or when the contracts are signed

Re: When is it safe...

we did not buy anything until the week of the closing and some of the stuff is still not here. Because of Kartina, a lot of furniture is taking a long time to come --- our couch and recliner are scheduled for delivery the last week of January and we have been here since early November. Currenly we are borrowing some chairs and folding tables from my parents and my in laws. I have also been taking my time with some things, so some stuff we have ordered, but other stuff we are waiting until we find what we (ok I) like.

I would rather get really good stuff (which can be $$$) over time than $ stuff all at once.

That's what I was thinking - we have almost everything we need, the only thing we'll be desperate for is a couch. Guess we'll have to **** it up and sit on the floor for a few weeks Chat Icon

I'm just kind of anxious and definitely don't want to miss the January sales! Chat Icon

Thanks!

Re: When is it safe...

Its safe after you are officially closed on your new place.

Don't order anything beforehand.

Re: When is it safe...

we ordered couches and a mattress a month or so before, because it was going to take time for them to come in.
of course, there was a problem with the couches and they weren't ordered when they should have been Chat Icon so they arrived about a month after we moved in....but the bed was ready before we closed and we asked them to store it for us until we wre ready for delivery
