Different causes of different types of miscarriage?
Hi all:
I had a misssed miscarriage four weeks ago at 11 weeks pg. The fetus measured 7 weeks. Before getting pregnant, my LP was 10-11 days and it's always kind of bothered me that it was on the short side. Am I right in thinking that a missed miscarriage would not be due to a short LP and/or progesterone deficiency? If that's the case, a short LP would cause a very early/chemical pregnancy, right?
Many thanks!

I am so very sorry for your loss.
Most miscarriages are caused by chromosomal defects in the embryo. Something happened when the egg and sperm combined. If you are concerned you might have a luteal phase defect, have your progesterone checked 7dpo. But you are correct in that if there was a progesterone issue, the pregnancy would end much sooner. Didn't your doctor check your hcg and progestrone while you were pregnant?

Re: Different causes of different types of miscarriage?
The number of m/c's caused by genetics are somewhere around 50-70%. No one really knows because many miscarriages are not analyzed. A missed miscarriage probably means your progesterone was high which is why you didn't bleed. People have these sometimes...there are not a lot of clearly defined answers unfortunately. Other causes of miscarriage, are: infection, uterine abnormalities, immune and clotting issues.

Thanks to you both.
So is it possible to have a short LP but a normal level of progesterone?

i don't know the answer to this but i can tell you that i have a short LP - anywhere from 8-10 days - and i got PG with no progesterone issues.

Re: Different causes of different types of miscarriage?
You can get pg with no progresterone issues...it's sustaining the pregnancy...with a rising progesterone.
I would also ask your ob to have you tested to see if you have a blood clotting issue while pregnant..I think it is MTHFR... it's a simple blood test that you don't have to be pregnant for. After my last loss my RE sent me for this test and turns out I have it.
