Please make sure your gates are closed...
with this warm weather and our pets out more often and for longer period of times.. please make sure your gates are closed.
When my father was at my sis's he found a golden retreiver puppy with no tags.
Then when i took my dd for a walk I found a cocker spaniel walking the streets. Did have a tag, i was about to call the # when my dad found the owner looking for her.
I know my streets are really dangerous.. people speed and dont stop at signs. So please be careful!!

And make sure your delivery people know to close them also.
We had the oil delivery guy leave our gate open one day, we let Misty out and when we called her she didn't come in. Thankfully, she was just waiting at the front door. It definitely gave us a scare though.

Have to be careful of the front doors too! I was bringing my son in from baseball practice last night and Thunder shot out the front door the SECOND that door opened. I had to chase him down the street for about 5 minutes because he thought we were playing a game. Luckily we live on a dead end.. but it was still pretty frightening!

This has happened with Katie. What we do is we say do you want a treat? And we turn and go back in the house. She follows.

How friggin scary is this. My skin hurts thinking about it. Thank God my dog never leaves my side. I trained her very hard to never go out unless I am there. Its a little annoying but I guess reading this its worth it. Now the only thing is I do not trust her if she sees another dog. I definately think she would run to say HI. And that could mean bolting across the street if she ever got shut out by accident.

what a good girl , just waiting at the door. as trained as Murray is now , I think he would take off if we werent there to reel him back in.
We have a small beware of dog sign on our gate so when you open it, you are aware there is a dog that lives there. If that helps for delivery people, etc

I dont think I could deal with my dog bolting out everytime I opened the door. it would freak me out. I use "back up " also and it really works. I also got very lucky she dosen't bark when the door bells rings. she runs to the door but no barking at all. THANK GOD. I couldnt handle that either.

Great advice! Last year, Verizon left my gate open and Denver got out. Thank God, it was only a few min before we found him, but I was in panic mode!
