Would you say something?
Derek went to a specialist for some pain he was having. The smarto hubby of mine didn't bring a check for the copay and they said no problem. So FF to yesterday when we receive a "FINAL NOTICE" invoice saying that "by this time you have received numerous invoices" which is NOT the case and that if they don't receive payment it's going to collections. I have never seen a single invoice. Now I know he should have paid the copay when the service was rendered but the threat of the final notice letter has me totally PO'd because this is the first time I am seeing a bill. Would you say something about that when sending payment or would you just let it be?

Re: Would you say something?
How much time was there between the appointment and receiving this invoice?

Re: Would you say something?
Ive seen doctors office put that on the first bill all the time, it gets the payment quicker. I would just pay it and be done with it. Why bother calling and getting aggreviated over it.

I'd definitely say something. I'd even ask them to fax over copies of these supposed invoices.

I'd just pay it. There's a possibility that the office has "automatic" invoices generated, so that a "final notice" comes out 90 days past due.

I pick my battles. I would just pay this one and move on. Its not worth the aggrevation to me.

Re: Would you say something?
Im not saying I am NOT paying the bill. I just want to write them a not so nice yet not completely rude letter because of the not so truthiness of their letter.

The letter will probably get tossed by some A/R clerk. I say call 'em, if it's bothering you that much.

I would pay it and say something. I'm sure you aren't the only one getting these threats, you might not get anywhere but it always makes me feel a little less PO'ed HTH

I wouldnt write anything with the payment; that would just be a waste of your time. If anything, I would call to make sure they know you never received one and to confirm all correct addresss info.

Re: Would you say something?
Is the doctor affiliated with LIJ by any chance? We get this allll the time with the lab there. DH goes every 3 months for blood work and they send us an invoice about 1/5 the time, the other times it is a warning that it will go to collections and occasionally we get nothing until the agency that supposedly is collecting sends a letter. We have both called LIJ to b!tch about this and one guy actually told DH, "yeah, our records are kind of a mess..." geez, you think?
I would just pay it since you know you owe it, but I would also send a letter to the doctors office.

This is what I would do also. Make it seem like you are telling them to be nice in case there is something wrong on their end with billing, but it will also get the point across that this was the first invoice you received.
I would be annoyed too!

Re: Would you say something?
this happened to me, not too long ago.
i paid it, but i also sent them a letter stating how unhappy i was about being threatened to make a payment.
the next time i went to the dr's office, i saw a copy of the letter in my medical folder!!!
