?? about insurance coverage
My insurance (Aetna PPO) has a cap for infertility of $20,000. Right now we're doing IUI....which is not so expensive but the actaully office visits for an internal sono and bloodwork and stuff can get quite expensive. I think they're billing the ins company like $500 per visit. All these visits add up. My ?? is do you think that the actual office visits for internal sono, etc are counted towards the cap or just the procedures (IUI, IVF etc) I hope this question makes sense. If the office visits are counted towards the cap then it looks like I'm gonna reach that cap in no time

Re: ?? about insurance coverage
With my insurance, they didn't count IUI as part of my IF coverage, but all insurance companies are different.
I would call when you can sneak out of work for a minute. Also, just because your doctor's office bills $500 doesnt mean that's what they get paid. They get paid what's "reasonable and customary" so that's what gets deducted from you coverage.
HTH!

Re: ?? about insurance coverage
I had asked this same question to my IVF billing office and she said that I have to call my Insurance company. Each company handles it differently and it also might depend how it is coded and billed.
Does your doctor accept Aetna? It's also possible that they have contracted rates with Aetna so even if they bill $500 for an office visit, Aetna will only pay their contracted rate and that's what, if anything, would be charged against your lifetime max.

Re: ?? about insurance coverage
Also how many IUI's are you doing? If I was doing IUI and not getting PG I'd move to IVF since your chances are double what they are with IUI

I'm only on my first IUI so far. But I've gone back for so many office visits for blood work and hormone checks and stuff. Their fee for office visits is high so I was getting a little concerned b/c I felt like I was gonna hit the max coverage too early. Even though 20k sounded like a lot to me at first (dont get me wrong I'm very grateful to be covered AT ALL) the fact of the matter is in the world of infertility 20k only goes so far.
