Anyone present a lot of PowerPoint presentations?
I do all the time - I find it really hard to streamline my information and always have more slides than time - anyone have any good tricks to reduce slides?
I put a lot in the notes section so I can say it wihtout having to show another slide, but anything else in terms of pointers would be appreciated!

You can hyperlink to other documents and only show them if you have time, or someone asks about the information....other than that, i just make the bullets very general, and really give most of the information when i am talking.

I do a TON of powerpointing.
Only main themes should be up there.
I use the 5 rule - no more than 5 bullets each with no more than 5 words.

i do that too - but that means I have a ton more slides that way!!!
I like the idea of hyperlinking, but still - I am not sure I will have the time for it, and then I'm like - what if it was really important to show?

As others have said, provide general info in the slides to give the audience an idea on what you're discussing and let your talking do the rest. No one will really listen if there is too much going on in each slide.

You should only have one slide for every 3-5 minutes you are talking.
I always think - "Is this slide adding value?" and if the answer is no - buh-bye!

i think that's always a question, but you really need to just choose the main, most important points. i spoke at a conference on saturday and condensed an hour long presentation into a 15-minute powerpoint...did i cover everything, no, but i tried to get the main points.
i like hyperlinking because it's there if you want it, and if someone asks a question about a certain point you can then refer to a specific diagram or page without having a slide for it

The thing is - I have so many slides because I do this - and just don't know how to keep it in the time constraints - I hate too much on a slide - I only have a few bullets on each slide, but then wind up with 70 slides!!!

the problem doesn't sound like it is the slides then, it just sounds like you have too much information for the time constraints. maybe give out more handouts with additional information so that you can refer to that topic without going into detail, or provide a list of additional resources so that the audience may get more information themselves if they are interested.

Sounds good - the thing is, they don't understand that the material I need to cover can't be summed up in a 2 hour workshop.... The material is too complicated
