Hep B vaccination
Do you get tested for this during one of your routine pre-natal bloodwork-ups?
I want to decline this vaccination in the hospital when my baby is born and wait for the ped to give it to him at a later date.
I might sound pretty dumb right now, but I would think I would know if I had it right? I mean it is not something that lies dormant and then pops up without you knowing?

Re: Hep B vaccination
I delivered at columbia in the city and they didn't give it to him. I didn't have a say, they just don't give it to infants in the hospital anymore. I heard certain hospitals don't administer it to infants.

Re: Hep B vaccination
Is this something we would need to discuss with our OB?

Re: Hep B vaccination
Yes, I do believe you are tested for it while PG, and if you are positive, then the dr. will recommend immediate vaccination.
And yes, it can be dormant and you can have it with no symptoms, but only as a carrier. My SIL is a carrier, no sypmtoms, but when she had my nieces and nephews they were both immediately vaccinated and she had to register them with CDC bc it is an infectious disease.
I would just ask your dr. but I think you were probably tested for it already (I know I was) and if you are not positive, there should be no reason why you can't delay shots

ITA - I also delivered at Columbia presbyterian and the ped who saw her at the hospital said they don't give it to babies there unless they are clinic patients - they tell you your baby will get the shot when they go for their 1st check up with the regular ped after discharge.

Thanks for this info. I am headed to the doc today so I will talk with her about it.

Re: Hep B vaccination
I didn't want to give it to DS in the hospital - the offered it at NSUH and we said no. Both DH and I had ourselves tested prior to DS's birth to make sure we didn't have it - and we don't. So, I didn't see any reason to give it to DS in the hospital when he was only alive for just a few hours!
