My bird's eggs are gone.

She's been on the nest, sitting there, so I have not been able to see them. So yesterday, I get home and the nest is empty. No eggs, no shells, nothing. Now, we are on the 4th floor and there are no trees that are close to us. They only go up to the 2nd floor. The bird is back today, sitting on the nest.

What could have happened? Is it possible she moved them and brought them back? Chat Icon

Were there ever eggs to begin with? I'm pretty sure that birds can't move their eggs.

Awwww...... it sounds like something got to them while the parents were away from the nest. I'm pretty sure that birds are unable to move eggs.

It's so early in the breeding season though, I'll bet you'll have a new clutch of eggs in no time.

Unfortunately, you're probably right. Chat Icon Many aggressive birds will attack the eggs and chicks of other birds. Some actually ingest them.

Mourning Doves aren't the best parents either, nesting in unsheltered areas, leaving the nest for long periods. Makes you wonder how it is that there are so many of them.

I'm sorry about your eggs. Although they will most likely try again. Whatever got the eggs in the first place might be back again though.
