I have a very embarrassing confession to make........
Last night we went to Lynbrook. We went to see DSD's school play "Willy Wonka"-it was awesome & we took her out to dinner afterward.
DH drove home & I fell asleep most of the way home, he was really tired too and he forgot we needed to get gas before we even left home. Well we were on the William Floyd parkway about 1/4 mile away from where we turn to go home, it was just before midnight, pitch black and we ran out of gas...............................................

IN MY NEW PRIUS!!!!! 
yup that's right we ran out of gas in the hybrid car but we made it alot closer to home than we would have in any other car! we called my Mom & she brought us enough gas to get home. The very nice cop that pulled over to see if we were ok before my Mom got there laughed right in our faces when we told him we ran out...at least he had a good chuckle for the night
Only us, I swear. You can't make this stuff up.

WFP is REALLY dark that time of night. I'd be shakin' in my boots, I'm such a chicken when it comes to being in the dark!

OMG I can totally relate....
I have a prius and I sort of forget that I DO need to add gas every now and then....  I used to have to add $35/week, and now I add $20 every other week..... In the interim, I tend to not pay attention to the gas guage....
I haven't run out of gas yet, but I have come close a couple times......

when you run out, you can coast on electric but you're not supposed to try to drive with electric only if there's no gas.
About 50 big error messages & lights pop up on every screen & it looks like you killed the car. I also learned something from a prius forum I found online, its not an 11.9 TANK, its a bladder that really only holds about NINE gallons....which means I've come really close to running out a bunch of times before!!!!

eta - Although I have never been in one before, I am sure they include the funky yet nifty and usually handy thingy called a gas gauge!!
