Ok I have to ask why?

Any civil attorney but I imagine you'd need complaints already filed.

What do you mean by "civil" attorney? Someone who doesn't handle criminal matters - or someone experienced in actions against municipalities?

Why would you need to have complaints already filed? This is something your attorney should do.

You need a litigator, preferably someone with experience in actions against towns, governments, or utility companies.

You would not use a corporate lawyer in this situation. You need a civil litigator.

Re: If I wanted to sue...

By the way, it will also depend partly on the nature of your suit -- contract dispute? personal injury? etc.

Feel free to FM me with some more details and I can let you know better what type of experience / background you should look for in an attorney.

I'll FM you so as to not hijack the thread... but short version is that they are NOT litigators. I think you are confusing commercial litigators with corporate attorneys. Chat Icon

Chat Icon You have FM!

You probably won't. Chat Icon Law schools are notoriously very litigation-focused and not focused on transactional work.

I agree - probably someone with experience litigating in Article 78 proceedings.

That's appealing decisions of administrative agencies, right? Does Article 78 cover water companies? (Honestly not sure if all water companies are government-run or indepdent...)

I meant someone who would sue for you in civil court, assuming it's not a criminal action.

I defer to you since you're the attorney.

Right. Whether it's Article 78 would depend on who runs the water district (I believe they're usually established by the town board, but not sure what happens after that) and if there was a decision issued.
