Re: need opinions about flying

wow... that's awful for your BIL and his wife. Chat Icon

flying is generally safe as long as you make sure you are hydrated and you get up often to stretch and walk around - evena few trips to the bathroom should be fine.

i will be flying to california at 17 1/2 weeks and 18 1/2 weeks, and i am confident that i will be okay. if it were me, i would go... but you have to listen to your gut!!

Re: need opinions about flying

I think they generally only advise against flying late in your third trimester because the change in air pressure could cause you to go into labor.

You should be fine as long as you keep hydrated throughout the flight, but definitely ask your dr. for their opinion.

DH and I are heading to Aruba in 2 weeks (4 and a half hour flight).

I'll be 28 weeks and my midwife had no problems with it. She just told me to try to get an aisle seat, drink lots of water, and get up and walk around every hour.

I flew during my second trimester with both of my pregnancies (best time for a babymoon....feel great, no more morning sickness).

I understand your husband's concern, however the MC was not caused by the flight. I'm sorry for the loss your family had to go though. I, too, have had a MC and understand how hard it is.

That being said, I fly all of the time! I travel weekly for work. My OB said I can fly until 32 weeks. I have been to 12 states and 2 countries since I've been pregnant - from San Francisco to Dallas to Boston. My advice is to drink a lot of water on the plane. You'll have to pee a lot Chat Icon but thats good because it forces you to walk to the bathroom and the walking is good. In the past two weeks, since I turned 30 weeks, my back started hurting on the plane but until then I was fine. I would go to Seattle if I were you! Enjoy!!

Re: need opinions about flying

I flew at 20 weeks i think it was... to florida. And on sunday i'll be flying to Arizona (at 25+weeks).

Like everyone said, drink plenty of water and walk around if you can. Chat Icon

I agree with the above poster. I really doubt that your SIL's miscarriage was a result of flying. I say go enjoy! Chat Icon

well, check with your doctor but my doc had no problems with me flying. As far as I know, nothing has been linked to miscarriages and flying

I'm sorry for your brother and his wifeChat Icon .

I think it's fine to fly. I flew at 18 weeks (to California) and 7 months (to Rochester) in my first pregnancy. I am flying to California again at 20 weeks this pregnancy.

Go and have fun!!!

Re: need opinions about flying

Being that I was just 23 weeks and took a flight last week the only thing I can suggest is drink plenty of liquids and walk and stretch as much as you can. I was a little uncomfy on the plane.
The only downside is when you drink so much water, you're constantly in that small yuckky bathroom!!!
Good luck and enjoy Seattle - its awesome!! I loved it there. DH and I went in October!

Re: need opinions about flying

I'm so sorry about your BIL and wife...that's terrible.

As the pp have said, flying is generally OK up until the later part of your 3rd trimester.

I flew to AZ (6+ hr flight) at 24-25wks. I drank a ton of water - about a gallon on the flight - and walked the aisle as much as I could (which was a lot b/c of the bladder issue Chat Icon ). Also stock up on snacks - there isn't much they provide on flights these days.

I flew again at 27wks to Atlanta (2hr flight - but was in the airport for 14hrs Chat Icon). Same as above - drank a ton, snacked and walked.

If your DH is still really concerned, you should both speak with your Dr and perhaps that will help ease his mind.

Re: need opinions about flying

I'll be 23 weeks when I go to SFO. My doctor doesnt want me to fly once I get into my third trimester. I would check with your doctor on what they recommend.

Re: need opinions about flying

I flew to London and back (approximately 10 hour flight for me) at 26 weeks. It can be uncomfortable if you get crowded by other passengers but otherwise everything is a-ok. Just make sure to drink lots of water and get up to walk around when you can. Chat Icon
