Venting
Today I had work all day and then a dr appointment. I was out from 7-5:30. My MIL came over to let the dog out and stay with her for about an hour. Here is the vent...my father on the way home from the Dr. invited me over for dinner, I said the dog has been alone all day and I don't want to leave her, I said "I would come over if I could bring the dog". His response, ok well I guess I will see you Sunday. Okay not a problem, my Rottie is still a puppy and gets excited when she sees people other than DH and I. She is an AMAZING dog and get compliments all the time on her..my father can't stand her and does not understand how much I love this dog. He also hates my cat and complains he is allergic to her. He is not a pet fan in general. Am I wrong here to want to be with my dog who has been alone pretty much all day??? It makes me so sad my father does not understand that my fur babies are part of my family and he says " She is just a dog" well not to me! Sorry I am just so upset over this

Re: Venting
We recently adopted Bailey, who's a 17 week old puppy. Neither of our familes (and we're very close to both sides) have dogs. We're used to spending a lot of time with the families, but we can't/won't leave Bailey for too long... I completely understand and think it's good parenting to want to spend time with your fur-babies.
I have to say I have been amazed at how great our family members have been about letting us bring Bailey over (we have a puppy pen and so he doesn't get run of everyone's homes (and perhaps destroys something he shouldn't).
It's sad that your dad doesn't see your furbabies as you do. There's not much that you can do about it. If he won't spend time with you and them - less time for him. Don't let him make you feel bad though....

Re: Venting
You are not in the wrong.
If we are at work all day and are going out at night we have my parents baby sit her or she comes with us.

Re: Venting
You are 10000000000000% right for wanting to be with your pooch.
Heck Arnold was sick last weekend, threw up three times. My husband stayed home with him while I went to my sister's for my niece's birthday in CT.
Your dog is part of your family, the way a child would be. You need to do what's best for the dog and being with him is the right thing. The poor dog was cooped up all day. Not to mention I'm sure he wants to see you.

Re: Venting
No, you are definitely not wrong for wanting to be with your pup. You are a good, responsible pet owner. But your father isn't wrong either. It's not your problem if he doesn't want your dog over.
Before we got our dog- I HATED it when other people brought their dog over. I didn't want their animal hair all over my house.
To many people dogs are just pets, not babies. You have to respect that.....
