planning a party...Hawaiian style
I am planning a surprise bday party.
we are doing a Hawaiian theme..
I have the backyard down...it's going to be ala Cheeseburger in Paradise on Waikiki beach. we will have palm trees (fake ) tiki lamps and are doing burgers with a multitude of toppings (any suggestions would be awesome)
the inside decor is what I am unsure about.
I have a decent idea for the rest of the food.
and lei's. I want everyone to get leid.
I don't want to use the plastic lei's...has anyone made fresh lei's...is there a way to do it and keep costs down?
this is going to be an adult party. there will be professional bananuts and coconuts out and about at one point
no idea is too wild to share.
this is a frisky fortieth.
Mahalo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know you don't want plastic, but I think real may get too $$.
Oriental trading has a lot of luau themed supplies - some are super cheesy - but others not so bad, you have to really look.
Inside decor: grass skirts on tables, lots of floating candles

Re: planning a party...Hawaiian style
The party planner show on fine living TV did a theme like this recently and showed how to make inexpensive real flower leis. I think he used carnations with beads in between. They were pretty.
Can you get a CD that plays the sound of the ocean in the background in one of the rooms? Or make a removeable tray for your coffee table filled with sand and seashells?
Candles, sand and seashells go a long way.
Sounds like a great party!!!

I don't know about using real flowers, but what about using fake ones from a craft store? Some of those look pretty realistic and wouldn't cost you a bundle (or wilt by the end of the night).

if I said pretty please with sugar on top
so. weirdness. I just looked up Cheeseburger in Paradise and it said No Results Found for Honolulu.
But I know I went there.
and there are CIP in NEW JERSEY. I am so disappointed that this is a chain.
I was at least hoping it was a tropical chain....

Re: planning a party...Hawaiian style
Our Rehersal dinner was hawaiian style. We actually hired a local deli to cater for us. They came and made BBQ food all night (they had hawaiian style to but we weren't sure anyone would actually have eaten it )
We got Leis from Oriental trading I think. They weren't plastic they were flowers (silk) and were nice.
Of course we also made everyone dress in theme
