Would this be very jerkish??
I am turning my car in in an hour. It is a lease. I installed a remote start in the car ($400) about a year after I got the car. Since taking the unit out of the car is more labor intesive than it is worth I am not removing the unit. Now... would I be a complete jerk if I didn't give them the starter keypads? Like it never existed? I feel like if I turn it in with the keypads I am making Acura better off than they would be without it. I mean, seriously, what have they done for me except take $$$ out of my pocket?

You might as well give it to them so the next person can have it.
Sure giving to them is giving Acura free money, but you can't do anythng with the keypads alone, so I would turn them in.

I dont think Im being vindictive. I just know that if honda goes and sells the car they can make a little more money off the installed remote start. A remote start that I paid for but am getting nothing from them for. KWIM?

Yeah, but you lose nothing by giving it to them, so you might as well just give it. Maybe they won't charge the next person $$ for it, and they will get a freebie.
I don't think it's vindictive, but since it doesn't do anything for you to keep it, I'd give it.
Either that or hide the starter pad somewhere in the car for the new owner to find..lol

Are you getting a new car through the same dealership? If so, ask for a credit for the remote start.
YOU gain nothing by keeping the key pads, so I don't really understand why you wouldn't want to give it to them. I'm guessing they could just reprogram it anyway...

They'll probably yank it all out anyway, unless it was dealer-installed. I would just let them know it's there. If you're not getting any benefit, might as well let them have the keypads.

Well, being that you knew that leasing a car isn't OWNING the car (meaning any improvements or add-ons you put on the car would be something you would lose money on), then you should have known that unless you had planned on removing it when you turned your car in, that it was going to be a loss. So I would just pay it forward and hand over the keypads.

If there was someplace I could hide it I would. I just have no idea where I could possibly put it I am all about helping my fellow consumer but not about helping the big corporations

that's what i am thinking... even though they might get more $$ from the next buyer, you are making the buyer's life easier by giving them the keypads. it's just a nice thing to do.

Then it's a no-brainer.
I was actually gonna go back and say, if it wasn't dealer-installed, don't say anything b/c they may try to charge you for labor required to remove the starter. If they want to CPO the car, they usually can't do it with any non-OEM parts.

Sorry, I forgot that part when I was "thinking out loud". I never leased so I didn't know if there are disclusures you make when talking about returning it or when that conversation would take place.

Actually, I was told the same by Rallye also for both my Benz and BMW, but I believe that KPToys had hers installed by the dealer, so she wouldn't have a problem.
