We're business casual here. Nice dress pants and a nice top.

For business casual, you can usually wear nice pants or skirts and a sweater or blouse. You can never go wrong with pants or skirt and a cardigan set.

i work in a school, and i would consider it business casual... i wear a lot of khakis/khaki colored dress pants, or black or gray pants. those are all great because you can pair them with pretty much any shirt. button down shirts are a good choice, i wear a lot of cardigan sweater sets, nicer short sleeve tee shirts in the spring- check out ann taylor loft for some really great stuff that fits really nicely. NY and Co also has some great work stuff. good luck!!!

i own lots of business pants, mostly in balck, gray, brown and tweed, they can all be dressed up by pretty much any shirt except a t-shirt (although i might wear a nicer t-shirt in the summer to be comfortable).
my favorite store to shop at for that stuff is NY & Company - they always have great sales and coupons and their prices are very reasonable.

For your first week - Lean toward more 'business' than casual ........it's really different for every company's culture.
I work in financial service, and we're business FORMAL all year with the exception of the summer, 'business causal' for my company basically means leave your jacket or tie at home -

Re: spinoff to: i got the call... what is a girl to wear to work????
I work in a hospital as a professional, not a hands on care giver and I have always been business casual. Some places more business than casual.
At my old job, it was dress pants- grey, black, khaki, navy etc. and a button down shirt or a tee shirt an casual blazer. I dont usually wear skirts because business casual infers panty hose, which I hate.
At my current job, its technically business casual but its way more casual. People wear chinos, polo shirts or plain tee shirt and even birckenstock clogs.
So get a few staples to get you through and see their interpretation of business casual.
