The anxiety has set in!
okay, so I had my shower this weekend and I am so grateful for all the amazing things I got and the generosity of all my friends and family BUT . . .
when I got everything home, it hit me.
I actually have to birth this child. And care for it.
I freaked out. and have been freaking out ever since.
Just this fear of having no clue what to do. I had a nightmare about changing his diaper and I couldn't figure out how to work the tabs.
I'm not afraid of labor and delivery. I'm afraid of having to be a MOTHER and having to care for this helpless little person.
Please tell me I'm not alone. I'm just really freaking out today for some reason.

i have a freakout like that at least once a day it's hard to wrap your head arund being responsible for another person. the good part is, you won't be alone... and your love for this baby will make sure you are a great mommy!!!

You are so not alone!! But can I tell you something? Once your baby gets here and you look into it's eyes, all the anxiety will melt away and mommy instincts really DO set it!!! And you will know what to do to care for your little one. And if you have any questions - ask your nurses at the hospital and take advantage of everyone that will come to see you. I wanted to kiss the lactation woman before I left!!!!

I have momentary freak outs too but then I think about all the other first time moms out there who made it through also and I know I will be fine once the baby is here, but it is terrifying if you let yourself think too much about it.

I freak out hourly. There is no mentally preparing. the concept is rediculous. I can't even remember to set my alarm clock, and I'm going to be someone's mom?
Maria's words make me feel better.

Re: The anxiety has set in!
All of us are having these "freak outs". Mine happen at least once a day.
I go from "cant wait to having this baby" to "OMG how do I know when to change the diaper, when do I feed him, when do I let him sleep, etc".
I babysat for one family for over a year. Their daughter was 3 months old when I started watching her, so I know I'm not lacking the "experience". Just the thought of it being mine makes me forget everything I know!
Hang in there. I think it's a learn as you go process.

We took our childbirth prep classes this weekend and I have been crying since last night.
Me too. Shower was Sat. last childbirth class was yesterday. I spent the whole weekend in a total state of wanting to vomit from the fear!!
And then all this stuff about the bumpers not being safe, and plastic bottles with BPA not being safe, and the 100 other things.
how are you supposed to know what to listen to and what to filter out, on top of just the day to day stuff like feeding and changing and calming ??

Thank you!! I am so glad to hear that and I know that every new mother says the same thing. That as soon as you set eyes on your baby, you just know and that instincts kick in.
It's just so hard to imagine that when I feel barely capable of taking care of myself every day.

This is absolutely true! I used to have freak outs about having the baby home too. When I was young I did a lot for my brothers but that was YEARS ago. Since then I hadn't really been around babies and I was so scared. Even this time around I'm nervous because I have forgotten everything! It literally just kicks in......no need to worry!!

Re: The anxiety has set in!
Your not along A few weeks ago I had a big freak out and couldn't stop That's why I can't wait for the class we're taking in April. DH didn't want to, but we're going. I would feel better if I just hear some stories/videos--whatever and what do myself. Like when and how much to feed the baby, when to change the diaper, etc.

Re: The anxiety has set in!
You're not alone! I think we all have those same feelings!
And the closer you get the more anxious and nervous you get! It's natural and we're all in the same boat!
We'll all be on here at like 2am asking questions!
