Really dumb question
I am trying to scan something into my computer. I have the printer connected to my laptop with a USB plug, and when I hit start scan I get an error message that says refer to device documentation to troubleshoot. I have the software installed. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?? TIA

DEEEEEEER.... Do you have vista? IF so go to control panel, printers, see if your printer is listed there.
ETA:I didnt read your post very well just make sure the printer software is on your computer...i lose mine from time to time but I am always on a wireless connection

Re: Really dumb question
well, first the obvious....
check to make sure it's plugged in and turned on.
if it is, maybe it's a driver issue? I know I've downloaded a lot of XP updates lately that have messed up software function (especially in relation to explorer 7)... maybe you need a driver update?
that's all I can think of, short of your printer breaking down (check your control panel to make sure your computer 'sees' your printer when it's plugged in) if it doesn't, maybe switch usb ports and check to make sure the cable is fully plugged in on both ends?
wierd.... I hate problems like those!
good luck

Re: Really dumb question
So I figured out my own problem, and not sure how/why this worked. I have the option on my printer to save to storage device. So I thought hey I'll save it to the flash drive, then transfer it to my computer. I plug in my flash drive into the printer and walla it goes to my computer. I didn't need to do anything else. And for the last hour my computer has been updating the software....going sooooo slow. But problem resolved. Thanks for all your suggestions.
