Summer School

Ok so I teach special ed in a day treatment center. I choose to work summer school b/c the money is awesome - and we REALLY need it. Also, the a/c is on full blast due to the fact that many of the kids are on medication.

BUT

Because of when July 4th falls, administrators have decided to start school on the 7th of July and end it on August 15th instead of starting earlier and ending the week before. I lose a week of nesting before Ed-lie/Les-ward arrives. I would have much preferred to go straight through!!! Its a purely financial thing for the school in terms of state funding and the required amount of total days and days per week we MUST have in order to keep the school open. DAMMIT!

I'll get over it, but I was just disappointed.

That stinks. I was totally debating workiing summer school this summer for the extra money too. Im still up in the air about it.

Is it possible to take that last week off? You might really need it, mentally and physically to recharge before the baby comes..

Eh the last week of summer school is pretty much a no-brainer. We do fun stuff and dont work that hard.

The whole session is 6 weeks. Starting in week 2, the kids go on one trip a week. I told my principal that I did NOT want to leave the building at all this summer. In the event I have an issue while I am on a trip, I cannot supervise the children properly. In the building, I have a different level of back up with clinicians and support staff. I also work with my sister and plan on driving in with her during summer school. Should I go into early labor, she can get me home and I dont have to worry about my car.

That stinks...it would be better to end earlier. I usually teach summer school as well but I'll be home with the baby. I am so going to miss the money this year...especially when we are going to need it more than ever.

Oh that stinks....I am sorry to hear that.

I will be working summer school as well at the HS level and we start July 1 (have off on the 4th) and end Thurs Aug 14 (last day of Regents exams).

I'm not going to...I live in NC and the summers are brutal here...so I plan on staying in my house hibernating in my CAC!
