Clump of hard fur on cat's back?
My cat has a clump of fur on her back that is hard, like a fur ball. I remember my aunts cat had something like this all over her but I always thought it was b/c her cat was dirty. My cat is an indoor cat and is extremely clean. What could it be? I tried petting her and seeing if she would let me touch it but she won't. I dont think she is hurt it is just like a big knot of fur kind of.
ETA: I just did a search online and it talks about cat's hair matting when they can't clean themselves when they get old and fat. I dont think my cat is that fat and she is only 5, i dont think that's too old. Online they said you have to either cut it out or shave her. Should I bring her to a groomer or to the vet for this?

I would try and wipe it with a wet cloth, and make sure its not dried up blood. He could have a cut.

My cat had some mats a few years ago in the humid weather. She ended up biting them out herself. She is not fat is not old either. I would clean the area to make sure nothing is wrong, then cut out the mats.

I have persians so we deal with mats all the time (even with brushing). My groomer sayd that it's worse in winter because of build-ups in static electricity (due to dry air).
