WWYD?
I got a call from a money retrieval company about money that I am supposedly due from State Farm. I had a policy a few years back and apparently, they go to the government and retrieve money for people for a fee. The only thing she could tell me is that it is more than $50..
I don't know whether I should pursue it.
There are no complaints on the BBB about the company..but I don't always go by that.
I spoke to the woman, the firm is her own out of Brooklyn.
I thought I may call State Farm, but they may have gotten it off their books already since it was many years ago.

they are not. This is a private firm that gets it's info from a part of the gov't about unclaimed funds.

Re: WWYD?
There is a state website where you can check for yourself to see if the State is holding any unclaimed funds of yours
New Your State Comptroller
From the website: For your protection, banks, insurance companies, utilities, investment companies and many other businesses are required by State law to surrender inactive accounts to the State. The Office of the State Comptroller serves as custodian of this money until you claim it. The State of New York never takes ownership of this money. If you can prove you are entitled to the money, we will gladly return it to you, at any time, without charge.

Just go to your local bank. They should be able to notarize it for you without a problem.

Yes! This is what I did when I was owed money from a past job. You can look it up online and send them a notorized form and you'll get your $$$ with no fees taken out by the other people.
