Do you count your change?

So this morning I stopped to get my hot chocolate from Dunkin Donuts and paid for it with a $20.. it was $2.19.

The guy gave me my change, I put it straight into my wallet, got in my car and drove off.

About 10 minutes later I remembered seeing a $5 on the outside of my change and started to wonder if he gave me the correct change. I looked in my wallet and he did give me the right amount back, just gave me $5 bills.

So my question to everyone is: do you always count your change after you buy something to make sure you got the right amount back? I definitely don't but think I might start!

Just my Tuesday morning thing that made me go hmmmmmm! Chat Icon

Sounds pretty much like me. I don't like coins, so if they gave me less coins back, I'd probably like it.... Chat Icon

Nope, I am a debit card freak. I don't even use cash anymore because I don't trust the people making change.

Re: Do you count your change?

i do, every time. i don't count down to the penny, but if the total was 2.19, i gave them a $20, and i only saw two quarters in my hand, i would stop and check the change.

After having gotten shortchanged a few times I now always count it. I also always say what I'm paying with "Out of $20.19" or whatever. I've noticed that has really helped stop getting back the wrong change.

I do, mainly because 90% of the people cant count it back to you. I find that the sadest part. this is when the reg TELLS them what to give you.Chat Icon Chat Icon

I always check.

We went to Wendy's this past weekend...I went up to the register to buy something off the $1 menu. It came to $1.08 I gave her $2. I got $1.07 back. Moron.

Re: Do you count your change?

I usually count the change as they're pulling it out of the register. If I can't catch up, I'll spread & glance at the bills as I am putting them away. I don't know why, but I always feel embarrassed counting the change in front of cashier.
