Kids (and teachers) say the darndest things
I teach special education in a psychiatric day treatment center. My students have varying diagnoses and cognitive abilities - all are verbal and coversational.
I have been trying to be as discreet as I possibly can with my students as I have not shared my pregnancy with them yet. I am starting to show and they know what a pregnant woman looks like, but they have yet to figure me out. I am better off that way - trust me.
Well I accidentally left a pregnancy/baby magazine on my desk. One of my students asks why I have a magazine with a baby on it. I told him lots of magazines have babies in them and he went on his merry lil way - or so I thought.
The student then says: "I hate babies, all they do is cry and poop." To which I replied:
"Honey, the only difference between them and us is that we can talk - we all still cry and poop." I think I stumped him.
They still don't know I am PG.

That's a good one!
I'm a speech-lang. pathologist and haven't been telling my students. I work with a mixed group of cognitive and language abilities, from mainstream classroom to multiply disabled. I have also chosen not to say anything for the time being. The other day one child, who has a major neurological abnormality, noticed. She said, "You look big. Are you having a baby?". I almost didn't know how to respond! She told me that I looked big because of my "pretty fashion shirt".

Funny!
I had a teenager (a girl thank God) point out to me that I had a cool ranch dorito on my shirt. It lodged itself right on my enormous chest.
I told her I was saving it for later!

I'm a special ed teacher, I have a self contained hearing impaired class...all my students except one have normal cognitive abilities. I told them Friday that I was pregnant. They were all sooo excited, and the one boy who is cognitvely delayed (he also has low language) he was sooooo excited...he keeps kissing my belly and touching it saying "R***** baby"....its very sweet. Its amazing what they do understand.
