sooo disapointed in my 11/12wk sono
so here i was all excited b/c I could finally hear the baby's heartbeat and see how much its grown and I got NOTHING. my Dr. said there was a chance that at 11wks ( 12wks on friday) I might not hear the heartbeat, and she didn't want me to freak out...so I asked if I was getting a sono instead and she said No...the next time we do a sono will probably be in another 4 weeks when the baby is more developed and moving around. BOO! and on top of that my BP was a little high AGAIN..so if its a tad high next time too, she will prescribe me blood pressure meds..ugh! I'm so frustrated and mad, but even more disppointed

Re: sooo disapointed in my 11/12wk sono
No HB at 12 weeks?? Really?? That’s odd. I heard a heartbeat at 8 weeks and it seemed to the doc as totally normal. The tech at the ultrasound at 12 weeks also acted like it was expected to hear the heartbeat more than just looking at it. Then after the ultrasound I went to the doctor and he said he could do a sonogram if I wanted to hear the heartbeat but if I heard it at the ultrasound it obviously wasn’t that different.
Never heard of not hearing a heart beat at 12 weeks or a chance of not hearing it. If you can see it.. you can hear it.

What? For a peaceful state of mind, I would demand another sono. I heard/saw a heartbeat at a little over 6 weeks! There's no reason why you should have to wait that long!

Re: sooo disapointed in my 11/12wk sono
I saw the HB at 6 weeks and heard it at 10 weeks. At 10 weeks they werent sure if they would hear it. The midwife told me not to be upset if we cant but if the baby is cooperating we may hear it. She told me you can hear it at 12 weeks. I have my next appt on the 18th where I'll be 14 weeks and a friend of mine that goes to see a doctor in the same office as mine said at her appt she got to hear the HB again.

Are you talking about there was no HB when the doc used the Doppler?
Because that is completely normal. At my 11 week appt my midwife said she couldn't guarantee she'd get the HB on the doppler, lucky for me she did. But she said usually by 14 weeks you can hear it on the doppler.

Re: sooo disapointed in my 11/12wk sono
I'm guessing she couldn't get a read w/ the fetal doppler, right?
That happened at my 12 week appt too. Don't worry. She said I had "a little extra around the middle" So it would be hard to pick up a HB w/ the FD so early.
I am surprised she didn't pull out the sono machine though. IF she was really concerned she would have. SO try not to worry and look forward to your next appt.

Yes, she didn't even do the FD...b/c she didn't want me to be concerned if I didn't hear anything. I already saw the heartbeat at 7wks, but I was sooooo looking forward to something today...and on top of that hearing the my BP was high again made me angry at my Dad for giving me his families's crappy genes. Everyone on my Dads side of the family has high BP and I guess I'm following suit UGH! I don't want to go on BP meds, but I DEF DON"T want to get preclampsia and have to deliver early

Re: sooo disapointed in my 11/12wk sono
I would ask my doctor to maybe check the baby again. We saw the heartbeat at 6w5d and heard it at 7w5d. Not to scare you but I would be a little concerned if I wasn't able to hear the heartbeat yet. I'm sure everything is fine but I would double check and make sure.

Re: sooo disapointed in my 11/12wk sono
The only upside to the whole appt was that the dr gave me something to help with my nausea, which I'm so happy about....its been bad at times.
I haven't been so disapointed like this in a long time

Re: sooo disapointed in my 11/12wk sono
My first pregnancy at my 12 week visit the doctor said we will listen with the doppler and if we don't hear it we will do a sono to make sure everything is OK.
This pregnancy, I had a sono first at 12 weeks saw baby, heard HB, got examined afterwards and the doctor still used the doppler but did say "We'll try but don't be disappointed if we don't hear it" but we did.
I am shocked they didn't do a sono, I would be so angry. It's not unusual to not hear it but still, you should've gotten some confirmation everything is good.

I did just think of another positive...I only gained a 1/2 lb...guess all the vommiting I'm doing is making up for all that I'm eating.
I just hope the next four weeks goes by quickly...I'm going back 4/8 when I'm 15weeks

Re: sooo disapointed in my 11/12wk sono
If she was trying to hear the heartbeat via an external sono, it isn't supposed to be audible until 12 weeks. If the doctor is doing an internal sono, you can hear at 7 weeks or so.
If the doctor didn't act concerned, them I am sure everything is fine! Don't worry!
