When Someone 'Borrows' - Part 2

You work in an office environment with a small group of people who all get along.

For birthdays you each chip in for a gift for the birthday person. One person consistantly pledges X amount of dollars toward the gift but never has X amount to give when collection day comes up and promises to give later.

Do you continue to ask for it? Or do you write it off? After the first few times do you stop asking the person? Or do you ask and not count their 'contribution' in when doing the actual tally? Do you let them sign the card?

Tried that once and she FORGOT to bring the present to the office. After 3 months we stopped asking where it was.Chat Icon

I would just stop asking. I get that it's only a few bucks each time, but if it's anything like my old office, there were birthdays every week. And that adds up.

Leave this person out and see if they come to you.

I would send an email out that you are buying a gift and if anyone would like to contribute to please come to your desk. I would say the card can only be signed when cash is given. Say that is your way of tracking who has paid and who still owes.

i remind them until the day the gift/gift card is going to be purchased and then that's it. they don't get to sign the card if they didn't contribute.
